Living on the coast, I often wander along the shores for a bit of down time. It's one of those 'reflect on your life' type of places with an ice-cream thrown in for good measure. I stumbled across a piece of driftwood...one of those lovely pieces, all twisted by the curl of the waves and sun bleached. How often have I've seen this kind of thing gracing the pages of modern interior magazines?
I picked up more wood, piling it into my Hubbies arms like a beachcomber gone mad. When I got home I pulled together a quick scene.
Don't you just love miniatures that cost nothing?
Have a great weekend everyone. I'm off to the beach again with a suitcase =0) Yo ho me hearties!
Pepper
Evast ye matey! I just love the driftwood. That's what I do whenever we go to the beach, fill up my pockets with small pieces. I adore the blue pillow with the flower!
ReplyDeleteArrr there matey =0)
DeleteIt just occurred to me and I've been living near the sea for forty odd years *Doh*
I love the sea side colors. That blue glass perfectly matches your pillow and throw. I LOVE the driftwood!!! It is a wonderful bedroom.
ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine. I'm very fond of blue too =0)
DeleteThey suit the scene perfectly! The real beauty is they're all one of a kind, nobody else will ever have the same thing. The picture above the bed is very apt! Kind regards, Brian.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian =0)

ReplyDeleteThank you Liduina, you're very kind =0)
DeleteI love this scene. On our beaches, beautiful as they are , I havent seen drift wood for over 10 years.....
ReplyDeleteNeomi
Hey Neomi, maybe if I throw some wood off our coast you might get it in...oh, I don't know...four years? =0)
DeleteGorgeous scene, it looks like a real interior designers room. I love the colors you used, especially the combination of the weathered wood color and this kind of blue........I am a huge blue fan :D!
ReplyDeleteNow we both used the driftwood in a different way.....;)!
Hugs, Ilona
I love blue too and wood looks so cool when its weathered =0)
DeleteGreat finds!
ReplyDeleteI love beach combing, I grew up by the sea, and there was always something interesting on the shore. I think some of the drift wood used to be washed into the shore from the Goodwin Sands, where there are the remains of several ship wrecks, well, that's where I like to think the drift wood came from, but I imagine it wasn't quite so romantic!! ;o)
I really like how you have used the drift wood, and I love that blue colour, it works so well with the drift wood!!
hugs
Andy xx
Andy, I totally believe that these pieces are from a pirates ship...no matter what anyone says =0)
DeleteI love this scene. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThe driftwood and blue accents balance out nicely.
Thank you Kyle, that's very kind =0)
DeleteThe beach and I don't get on so well, so the fact that it's two hours away is just as well.
ReplyDeleteBut I love the scene: is that a tea towel you used as a bed cover? :-D
Ha, you caught me. That is indeed a tea towel =0)
DeleteA perfect scene! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Brae =0)
DeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda =0)
DeleteThere needs to be a miniatures magazine that features talented interior designers who specialize in miniature. This is exactly the type of design that should be on the cover, with a feature on you and your designs. This is not our grandmother's dollhouse! Brilliant as usual!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Neen
Aww bless. That's really nice of you to say *blushes*
DeleteHow cool would that be though? An interior magazine for miniatures only =0D
This is a beautiful use of things that nature puts in our way.
ReplyDeleteA great job!. =)
Thank you Eliana =0)
DeleteThe colors are just dreamy. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThank you Isabelle =0)
DeleteHow kind of the sea to send minis to you for free ;) As well as making really unique additions to your room the colours and textures are fantastic together.
ReplyDeleteI refuse nothing but blows Norma, so anything for free that I can use in miniature has gotta be a bonus =0)

ReplyDeleteThis is GORGEOUS!!! Gotta love mother nature freebies!
ReplyDeleteOriginal y perfecto!
ReplyDeleteHi Pepper,
ReplyDeleteIndeed your talent is the gift that keeps giving. The room is perfection! When I hit the beach in 2 weeks I'll be hoping for similar bounty. If one could choose favorites among all the awesome, I'll go with the sculpture and the painting above the bed which helps bring it all to life ; )
Hai creato un ambiente che ....emana serenità....è buon gusto!!
ReplyDeleteComplimenti bellissimo
Un bacio
Patty
That is a beach house room at it's best! You are making me long for the beach...especially now that I will be looking for driftwood and such. lol
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I collect all the sea gives, from mini shells to drift wood too. But you've brought it so well to use! Wonderful room! I totally agree with Neen. You should be covered in such a magazine. What a great idea! Any publishers out here??
ReplyDeleteHello! I have just discovered your wonderful Blog via Facebook! I adore your 'Driftwood Boudoir'.... Thank you for sharing your beachcombing adventures! Only just stumbled across your blog but that gives me the chance to read it all in one go - love love love your work! Quick question - how do you do the windows for your scenes? Roni
ReplyDeleteHi Roni, thank you for following. I have a room box which I normally use to stage the scenes. The windows were already cut out of the wall and the window frame is made using a laser cutter. It's simple enough to do by hand too. It's just rigid card (the sort you use to mount pictures), which can be cut with a scalpel or craft knife. I think the frame width is 10mm all round. I used sticky tape (on the outside so you can't see it) to hold it in place. Hope this helps =0)
