Too cool for school

There are a few different reasons why I buy the miniatures that I do. Sometimes it's the maker. Sometimes the style. But more often than not, it's how realistic the miniature is. I few days ago I was trawling the internet using my regular list of adjectives in the hope of finding something new - Unique Miniatures...Original Miniatures...and then Working Miniatures. I think anyone reading this blog will relate to the thrill of finding something that not only looks like its full-scale counterpart but also works the same as its full-scale counterpart.

How sweet are these?

Fully working, miniature umbrella's! I'm only bummed that these are 1:6th scale and not dollhouse scale. This didn't stop me buying one however. How chic (or sad) will I look with a fully functional brolly hanging out of my cocktail glass? Sad probably but hey, I'm cool with that =0)

  1. It is a pity it is not in scale 1:12, but incredible it works! Would love to see it, Carol!

  3. These are really cool! Would they perhaps work as 12th scale patio parasols?

  4. Wow these are so cool, thanks so much for sharing your finds with us Pepper... I'm thinking I might grab one for myself also :)
I wonder if, being 1:6, they would look semi-ok as a table umbrella or in a scene over a deck chair as then it would need to be slightly larger anyways? Shame to have all that detail wasted on a table brolley though huh?

    1. I would love to think that I could replicate it in smaller scale but I think that skill would be beyond me. I may have to invest in some 1:6th scale scenes =0)

  6. At least they will work as scale models of the big real life umbrellas they sell to golfers. The ones the caddy holds over the golfer.

With a change to the handle they would also work as the beach shelter umbrellas.

Not the right shape for Market umbrellas for picnic tables though which is very sad :(

  7. The Vitra modern furniture miniatures are in 1:6 scale, they would work in a scene featuring those pieces.

  9. Hello Pepper,
I think you'll look bloody fantastic with a working cocktail umbrella. That's a conversation starter if ever I saw one. I bet they will catch on.

  10. Wonderful item! But where did you actually buy it from? Have clicked through all the links but cannot find a price or an item to buy. Please could you give a link to the actual shop/webpage to show price, shipping etc and actually buy one, please. Sorry to be thick .

    1. Sorry Elbey, my fault. If you click on the word 'these?' in my post, it takes you to the ACI toys site. At the bottom of their main page there is a link 'where to buy'. This takes you onto stores in different countries that stock ACI products.

If you're in England like me, I bought it from kghobby_com on Ebay.

  11. Very cool, but too big for me. :(

Have you seen Fran Made Minis' umbrellas? They're not "working" but they are working it, and 1:12 scale to boot: http://www.etsy.com/shop/FranMadeMinis

  12. they are great even if they're too big for mini's! I can so understand that you bought one anyway ;) And who knows you can use it as suggested.
And I think the idea of it in a cocktailglass as a conversationstarter is great Giac!
I have plans making a 1:12 scale working umbrella for a few years now. In my head it will be fantastic and I even have an idea of how to make it. If I succeed... we'll have to see. And lot's of other ideas to work out first as you all will recognize so well.. :D

  14. Hello Pepper! Your blog was one of the first I found when I started to do miniatures less than a year ago, I really love your realism! Now I have started using blogspot and am blogging myself, so I become a follower of your blog now. Just wanted to say that you give me so much inspiration =)
    All the best!
